THE COMMUNIST Party of India (CPI) has planned to launch a statewide agitation to highlight farmers’ problems. Talking to HT here on Sunday, senior CPI leader Atul Kumar Anjan said that the party would organise demonstrations at all the district headquarters on September 14.
He said the party had already raised various issues including credit to the farmers at the rate of 4 per cent, distribution of non-spurious fertiliser, supply of cheap pesticide and seeds.
“We have also decided to raise the demands of the unorganised workers and attack on the working class. The party will contact the masses on public issues. The party has already been organising demonstrations and dharnas against price rise and for solution to the teachers and employees’ problems,” Anjan said.
He said that a massive dharna would be organised near Vidhan Bhawan and various districts on October 10. “We can’t match the money and muscle power of the rival political parties. So we have decided to focus on the public issues with the like-minded political parties,” he said.
On the question of the Left parties treading on a separate path in the Vidhan Sabha election, Anjan said talks were on among the left parties over a pre poll alliance. “We have decided to take up the public issues first. Then we will chalk out a poll strategy. We want to present a new alternative before the people and ensure a strong presence of the Left parties in the assembly,” he said.

To divert the attention of the people from real issues, the ruling SP was distributing unemployment allowance, pension to MISA detainees and sarees among women.”
“The state government is busy acquiring agriculture land for establishing high tech cities. The farmers are losing their livelihood. The government is not kin to launch the employment schemes,” he said.
