In a letter written on March 3, the CPI has urged district Collectors to review the situation regarding payment of salaries to the contract teachers and shikshakarmis and asked them to procure utility certificates from the DEOs.

The CPI has directed that unless the DEOs present the certificates regarding distribution of salaries to contract teachers and shikshakarmis, their (DEOs) own salaries for the month of March should be held back.

Baghel has directed collectors to ensure that salary to the contract teachers is being paid on time. “We have disbursed the required budget to all districts as per the requirements,” Baghel said in the letter, adding that no cases of demand of salary budget was pending with the directorate.

Non-payment or inordinate delay of salaries to shikshakarmis and contract teachers was a long running problem and had even attracted the attention of the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister had personally directed that this problem be solved. The letter probably comes in wake of this directive.
