The CPI(M)-Sangh Parivar tussle over the political affiliations of the five men arrested for abducting and assaulting Shruthi, a student in Mangalore and daughter of Kerala CPM legislator C.H. Kunhambu, and her fellow passenger Shabeeb, refuses to die down.
On Monday, CPI(M) state secretariat member G.N. Nagaraj demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation be asked to nab the “real culprits” involved in whisking away the teenagers to a house on the outskirts of Mangalore and beating them on February 6.
“Those boys are from the Bajrang Dal, and not from the CPI(M), CPI, DYFI or the CITU. Four of them are very active members of the Bajrang Dal in Manjeswar area,” Nagraj said.
But Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Singh Rudy said on Monday in Delhi, quoting media reports, that the CPI(M)’s youth wing, Democratic Youth Federation of India, was behind the attack on Shruthi.
“The DYFI has claimed responsibility for moral policing. Some arrests have already been made. This proves that there is an ongoing design from political parties ranging from the Congress to the Left to falsely malign us,” Rudy said.
