Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said there was "credible evidence" against Pakistan for the involvement of ISI in the July 11 Mumbai blasts, ending the confusion created by National Security Advisor MK Narayanan's contention that the evidence was "not clinching".
"We have what we can call credible evidence," Singh told reporters who sought his clarifications in the light of Narayanan's interview to a television channel.
Asked about the proposed Indo-Pak joint mechanism to fight terror, he said since the two countries could not go to war, they had to explore new avenues for peaceful resolution of conflicts.
"It is a trial. We have to experiment," he said.
Asked whether the ISI would be involved in the mechanism, he said all these details had to be worked out.
To a question on the clemency petition of Mohammed Afzal Guru, he said the legal process was under way and this had to be gone through.
The Prime Minister just smiled to a question on whether he was relieved after having a new Foreign Minister in the form of Pranab Mukherjee.
In his brief interaction with the reporters, Mukherjee said by and large there was support in the US Congress for the Indo-US nuclear deal.
