The Special Operation Group (SOG) of Rajasthan police on Sunday continued raids at several places in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur following the busting of an international credit card cloning racket. Eleven persons were arrested in the raids on Saturday.
SOG Superintendent of Police A Ponuchami told the Hindustan Times that the gang’s network extended to all the three cities. The victims were foreign tourists who had used their credit cards during their visits to India but did not have an inkling that their cards were being misused, he said.
Ponuchami disclosed that police recovered 75 duplicate cards, laptops and six skimmers. He said the racketeers misused international credit cards of 29 foreign banks within a span of 6 months.
The police swung into action after receiving complaints from the ICICI and HSBC banks. In most cases waiters and shopkeepers were found to be involved, he said.
Foreign banks have lost crores of rupees in such rackets in the US, UK, France, Japan, Israel, Malaysia and Germany.

After swiping at the machine given by the bank at the hotel counter, the waiter swipes it again in the skimmer machine, which is given by the shopkeeper. Racketeers regularly keep in touch with such waiters and collect the lipstick-size skimmers.
