Notably, the municipal corporation had dug up a lane of the local Hanuman Colony over two months ago for laying sewers and water pipes.

When a JCB machine of the municipal corporation started filling the dug up lane with sand, without laying sewerage and water pipes, locals held a protest against the decision.

Vijay, Ajmer, Sombir and Nafe Singh, who were among the protesters, told mediapersons that long back they had got the lane cemented by collecting money from colony residents.

They added that they were elated over the decision of the municipal corporation to lay sewers and water pipes in the colony, but the project was scrapped after the Kalanaur MLA and the local mayor locked horns over the naming the foundation stone.

Mayor Renu Dabla, who is a resident of this colony, denied of having any issues with Kalanaur MLA Shakuntala Khatak. She said the development work would be given priority without considering any other factor, including the credit for laying the foundation stone.

Khatak, who is also a Dalit leader, admitted that a section of Hanuman Colony falls under her assembly constituency but said she does not have any differences with the sitting mayor of Rohtak. She added that though she shares a good rapport with locals, as her in-laws live there, but fight over seeking credit is not an issue between her and the mayor.
