Parag and Akshay Dixit, grandsons of Kamala Dixit who is Vajpayee’s sister, are alleged to have thrashed the two on the intervening night of March 20 and 21 near their Pratap Nagar locality. Cases of attempted murder under the SC/ST Act have been filed against them, police said.

Kamla lives in Alka Puri locality of Pratap Nagar. The family was in dispute with Bhan Singh, who stays in nearby Garhi Bhadoria. A case has been registered at Jagdishpura police station.

The Dixit family filed a cross FIR against three persons and a case has been registered.

“Reports lodged by both parties have been registered,” said Vijay Singh, in-charge for Jagdishpura police station. “An inquiry is being conducted by a circle officer and required action will be taken accordingly.”

Kamala has complained of police highhandedness. Her daughter-in-law Nirmala said it’s a curse being a relative of a former prime minister. “The speed with which the case was registered speaks about the way it is being handled. The incident is said to have happened at 12.03 am and a case was registered at 12.15 am.

The local unit of the BJP lodged its protest only after the top brass in Delhi and Lucknow intervened. Even now they are not prepared to speak about the incident although they have submitted a memorandum to DIG, Agra Range, on Tuesday.

They complained of arbitrary attitude of the local police under undue “pressure” from the Uttar Pradesh government. Such targeting of relatives of senior BJP leaders will not be tolerated, they said.
