Criminal shot dead in encounter

A NOTORIOUS criminal, Rakesh Singh alias Sadu, was shot dead by police in an encounter on national highway at Dafi under the Lanka police station on Thursday night. Singh?s three accomplices managed to flee. Singh?s name had also surfaced in the murder of secretary to actress Manisha Koirala in Mumbai.

A NOTORIOUS criminal, Rakesh Singh alias Sadu, was shot dead by police in an encounter on national highway at Dafi under the Lanka police station on Thursday night. Singh’s three accomplices managed to flee. Singh’s name had also surfaced in the murder of secretary to actress Manisha Koirala in Mumbai.

The police recovered a jeep and a pistol. Singh was a resident of Chandauli and a former expelled student leader of the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV).

He was wanted in several cases of henious crimes including the murder of former vice-president of students’ union in MGKV, Anil Singh Munna and a fatal attack on former jailer of district jail, Surya Mani Chaubey in Varanasi a few years ago.

SP (City), Anant Deo, said Singh’s name had surfaced in connection with murder of secretary to actress Manisha Koirala. However, he was not a named accused.

His friends had carried out the murder.

According to the police, just a few hours before the encounter, Singh along with his accomplices, had threatened the jailor of district jail, AP Rai, outside the jail with dire consequences if he went to the court for evidence in connection with a case. As the jailor informed the police, cops geared up and launched a massive checking of vehicles throughout the city to nab the criminals.

He was rushed him to the BHU hospital where doctors declared him dead. SSP Dr GK Goswami lauded the police team for the successful operation.
