Residents of Palam Vihar and sectors 21, 22, 23 and 23A can now look forward to better connectivity with Delhi and New Palam Vihar as the Bazgera railway crossing will soon be upgraded from a single barrier to double barrier crossing. Its width will be increased from 7.5 meters to 11 meters.
Residents have, however, demanded an overbridge or flyover at the crossing because of the ever increasing traffic volume at this junction.
Known as Level Crossing No. 23 in railway jargon, this crossing falls between New Palam Vihar and Palam Vihar, virtually connecting Bijwasan in Delhi with Gurgaon and serves as one of the major seven level crossings in Gurgaon district, according to railway sources.
According to officials, work is expected to commence next month. "We will soon float a tender for the R50-lakh project and hope the work start some time in the first week of September," said Mohit Lila, senior divisional engineer.
Delhi divisional railway manager (DRM) Ashwini Lohani and Mohit Lila had visited the site last year in June and agreed to act on the issue of widening the crossing.
According to railway's periodical survey (conducted every three years), the daily traffic volume was 4,91,008 in January 2010. "This figure was arrived at more than a year ago and I think it must have crossed five lakh by now," said Lila, adding that nearly 30 trains pass on this track daily between Delhi and Rewari.

{{/usCountry}}It is worth noting that the increasing traffic volume has been posing serious accident threats and inconvenience to residents, who have raised the issue several times.
"There is no record of the accidents that take place on this crossing. Huge jams are witnessed daily due to the single barrier. We have been chasing the DRM and Gurgaon administration relentlessly," said Azad Kataria, a resident of the area.
