Actor Tom Cruise has prompted a Californian politician Ted Lieu to introduce legislation to ban the sale of ultrasound machines to anyone but licensed medical professionals.

According to Contactmusic, Cruise announced that he had bought an ultra sound machine last year and said that he even performed sonograms on his pregnant fiancée Katie Holmes. Lieu thinks Cruise has gone too far and is keen to prevent common people from buying machines for personal use.

He says: "If someone sees Tom Cruise buy one, they think this is the thing to do."

Lieu fears that fans trying to imitate Cruise might buy the machines, which can be dangerous and could cause harm to the baby if used improperly.
