Sahni was reviewing progress of monitoring programme of basic facilities while talking to the commissioners and collectors through videoconferencing here.

The Chief Secretary directed the commissioners and collectors that farmers get fertilisers as per their requirement. He said he is getting reports to the effect that farmers are lifting fertilizer stock, which can last up to February 2007. This is resulting in shortage of fertilizers, he pointed out.

In view of the present situation, the collectors and commissioners are required to ensure that the farmers lift fertiliser as per their requirement, he added.

Sahni also directed the collectors to undertake regular tours of villages making physical verification of the basic facilities on the spot as per the list provided to them in their respective districts.

He told them that at present electricity is being supplied in rural areas for eight hours. If there is any cut in this supply it should be reported immediately.

Agriculture Secretary Pravesh Sharma said a target has been set to distribute eight lakh metric tonnes of fertiliser till February 2007.
