CS: Tax collection growth satisfactory

CHIEF SECRETARY Rakesh Sahni expressed satisfaction over the performance of revenue receipts of major revenue earning departments.

While reviewing revenue receipts of various departments during a meeting held at Mantralaya in Bhopal the other day, Sahni directed senior officials not only to achieve the tax collection targets but also to maintain a growth of about 15 per cent.

According to sources, he appreciated the efforts being made by majority of the departments to surpass the targets assigned to them.

The Chief Secretary expressed satisfaction that most of the departments maintained a healthy growth in tax collection. However, he was unhappy with the progress of Transport Department.

Against a target of Rs 4,155.18 crore, various departments collected Rs 4,550.93 crore in tax and non-tax revenue till the end of second quarter thereby registering a growth of about 10 per cent.

On tax revenue front, major tax earning departments collected Rs 3,942.32 crore as against a target of Rs 3,501.28 thereby registering a growth of 12 per cent.

While majority of the revenue earning departments' maintained a healthy growth, collection from motor vehicle tax was below target.
