Cultural programmes mark ?Jatra-2006?

‘JATRA 2006’, the three-day Marathi Food Festival and Trade fair organised by Marathi Social Group began with a cultural presentation including ‘Lavni and Koli’ dance at Potdar Plaza grounds, Gandhi Hall today.

Mayor Dr Uma Shashi Sharma, Saint Anna Maharaj and Member of Parliament Sumitra Mahajan inaugurated the fair. Traditional Marathi dishes including ‘bahakarvadi, puranpoli, ravan bhat, thali peeth’ were the chief attraction in the food zone.

‘Puran poli, sada varan bhat, patal bhaji, curry, kaushambir, vatli dal, panchamrita, bhaji papad’ were the major attraction in the ‘pangat’ zone. Madhuram Sweets provided special assistance in the ‘pangat’ zone.

The trade zone having electronic and automobile company stalls and Para banking gallery comprising nationalised and private sector banks drew a lot of customer attention.

Lavni and Koli dance were presented by school children. 42 cadets from the Maratha Regiment, Mhow gave a ‘malkhamb’ presentation under the guidance of Colonel VN Sawant.

The second round of inter-school folk dance presentation along with a performance by 20-member Nitin Karandikar group from Kolhapur would be held tomorrow.
