Cummins expands India engine JV

Diesel engine maker Cummins has signed an agreement allowing its JV with Tata Motors to expand engine production in India.

Diesel engine maker Cummins Inc said on Friday it signed an agreement allowing its joint venture with Tata Motors to expand engine production in India.

The joint venture, Tata Cummins Ltd, will fund the $60 million expansion from ongoing cash flow and joint venture debt, Cummins of Columbus, Indiana, said in a statement.

The venture will boost production of Cummins B-series engines to 100,000 units annually within two years and to 120,000 units thereafter, Cummings said. The venture currently produces about 69,000 Cummins B-series engines per year.

The joint venture was started in 1992 to make engines for trucks manufactured by Tata Motors, India's largest truck producer.
