Cure for AIIMS

Apropos of the report PM sets up panel to find out what ails AIIMS (June 20), everybody knows that large-scale political interference in the management of the institution is its main ailment. With the Health Minister as its president and the Health Secretary and Director-General, Health Services, too, holding prime positions, AIIMS seems to have lost its autonomy. All government officials should be removed from the institute.

UNfit
It seems that the United Nations has become a puppet in the hands of the US. It has not played an effective role in finding a solution to the problems in Palestine, Ireland, Kashmir etc. Terrorism is on the rise and the member-countries have remained mute spectators.

Enemies of the state
the involvement of two J&K MLAs in the sex racket (Ex-ministers unmasked, June 21) is a matter of shame. It has tarnished the image of politicians. How can people ever trust the people they elect to look after their welfare?

If only we were playing
I deeply lament the absence of an Indian team at the Fifa World Cup. Many smaller countries, which once played poorly, now fare exceedingly well. It is a pity that we cannot produce a team of international level. Though we give over-importance to cricket, we have never given due importance to this marvellous game.

The report There is life beyond cancer (June 17) reflects the government’s apathy towards disabled persons. It should provide a disabled-friendly environment.
