Six persons including BJP MLA KK Nirman were arrested and the district administration banned entry of political and religious leaders into the curfew-bound town as a preventive measure, officials said

In the past three days, over 170 people had been rounded up mostly for curfew violation, they said.

Police said two persons trying to assemble a crude bomb in a house in Bhojpura locality were admitted in serious condition to AMU Medical College hospital after the device went off. A case had been registered against them.

Authorities clamped curfew in localities under Gandhi Park and Banna Devi police station areas as tension brewed after City Congress City Congress MLA Vivek Bansal and about a dozen party workers were confronted by a mob at Sasni Gate.

Members of both communities vent their ire on Bansal and his supporters who somehow managed to elude the stone-throwing mob, they said.
