The restrictions on the movement of hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani have been lifted, official sources said.

Curfew was lifted in Baramulla township at 8.30 am on Sunday after remaining in force for the past two days in the wake of killing of a youth in firing by security forces on protesters in the district on Friday, they said.

However, shops and business establishments closed shortly after opening in the wake of protest by a group of people in the town against the alleged excesses of security forces, the sources said.

The protesters later dispersed peacefully and reinforcements have been deployed to maintain law and order.

In South Kashmir township of Shopian, the authorities did not allow any relaxation in the curfew which was promulgated on Friday following killing of a man and injuries to several others in the firing by security forces.

Shops and business establishments and educational institutions in most parts of the city were open, and all modes of transport were plying normally.
