Curfew lifted in violent-hit areas of Punjab

Curfew was lifted on Friday from parts of Jalandhar, Phagwara, Malout and Hoshiarpur, which saw largescale violence in the wake of the killing of Sikh sect leader Sant Rama Nand in Vienna on May 24 with the complete normalcy returning in the areas.

"There is no doubt the situation has become normal now and accordingly curfew, which was imposed on May 24, is lifted with effect from today. But as a precautionary measure, section 144 will continue in force in the district", A S Pannu, Deputy Commissioner, told PTI.

Reports from Phagwara, Hoshiarpur and Malout said night curfew was lifted from the area as the situation became completely normal.
