Curfew ralaxed in riot-torn Dhule

Life in North Maharashtra's riot-affected Dhule town returned back to normalcy after curfew was relaxed from 0600 hours to 2300 hours, police said.

Life in North Maharashtra's riot-hit Dhule town on Wednesday returned back to normalcy after curfew was relaxed for 17 hours.

Curfew was relaxed from 0600 hours to 2300 hours. There were no fresh reports of violence and the situation was under control, top police officials said.

Commercial establishments, banks, educational institutions remained open as usual.

Nearly 250 people were arrested in connection with the riots that broke out on October 5 after banners of a right wing were found torn off in Ram Mandir chowk.

Several houses, shops and petrol pumps in different localities were burnt by the rioting mob, the officials said.

Security was being maintained in the sensitive areas, they added.
