Curfew relaxed for few hours in Leh, Kargil

Leh and Kargil had witnessed widespread violence over reports of alleged desecration of Quran at a mosque.

Curfew was relaxed for a few hours in Leh and Kargil on Tuesday following an improvement in situation.

Leh and Kargil had witnessed widespread violence over reports of alleged desecration of Quran at a mosque.

Curfew was relaxed for a four hours in entire Leh district from 9 am on Tuesday morning, the sources said adding if there was no untoward incident the relaxation would be extended further.

Senior civil and police officials of the district are monitoring the situation, which has improved over the past few days, the sources said.

In Kargil, curfew was relaxed for three hours from 10.30 am in the whole district on Tuesday, Senior Superintendent of Police Danish Rana said.

No untoward incidents were reported during relaxation in the curfew in both the districts on Monday.

Violence erupted in the Ladakh region early last week following allegations of desecration of the Quran in Bodh Kharboo area of Kargil district on February six.
