The district administration relaxed the curfew in the morning from 6am to 10am, while the afternoon relaxation has been given for nearly five hours.

Deputy commissioner J Ganesan, who patrolled the markets and interacted with locals, said the markets have been opened for people to purchase necessary items.

He appealed to people not to believe in rumours and bring those to the notice of authorities who try to vitiate peace.

"Police personnel have been deployed at different places... The district administration is completely committed towards maintaining law and order in the district," Ganesan said.

He said that all the educational institutions including schools, colleges and other institutions would remain closed till November 28.

Meanwhile, all government offices including various Boards and Corporations remained closed on Monday.

The violence on November 24 had left 12 people injured and six vehicles badly damaged near Balmiki Chowk.
