WATER SUPPLY in many parts of the City will be affected on Wednesday due to erratic power supply to Kolar Filtration Plant on Tuesday. Besides, there will also be power shutdown at filtration plants at Badal Mahal and Shyamla Hills on Wednesday.
Water supply to about 30 per cent areas in the City connected to Kolar Supply System would be curtailed on Wednesday. The power cuts also affected water supply in some areas of the City on Tuesday evening.
BMC officials said full capacity pumping is started after two hours of a power cut. Thus two power cuts on Tuesday delayed pumping for about four hours. This has reduced 30 per cent pumping of water for Kolar Filtration Plant.
The pumping was affected for the first time at 10 am on Tuesday when MP State Electricity Board shut down the MACT feeder for maintenance work. Though it took only five minutes to change over to another feeder - Mandideep Feeder - the pumping was affected for about two hours.
For the second time, there was power cut for about five minutes at 5.25 am, affecting water supply for another two hours. Meanwhile, BMC officials said that they were receiving power frequency below than 49 cycles per second resulting in lesser discharge from Kolar pumps. Earlier, MPSEB officials had said that charges of low-frequency power supply were baseless. They had clarified that the power frequency was adequate to run the pumps.

This would affected the water supply in Badaipura, Hawamahal Road, Chirayu Hospital, Gali Daud Ahmed, Noormahal Paega, Pathar Wali Gali, Shahid Nagar, Bagh Munshi Hussain Khan, Putlighar, Tila Jamalpura, BDA Colony, Kabitpura, Sharma Colony and other areas.
Besides, water supply would also be affected in the areas connected to Shyamla Hills Filtration Plant including Chowk, Imami Gate, Ghoda Nakkas, Jumerati, and Professor Colony etc. The BMC administration said that they would make alternative arrangements of water supply in these areas.
