The Commonwealth Games patchwork is not merely limited to the stadia and the venues, but it is spreading fast across the city as well.
With less than 50 days left in sports’ ‘magnum opus’, the civic agencies have been told by the Games Organising Committee (OC) to at least ‘wrap’ what they cannot fix. The civic bodies will be literally gift wrapping the dilapidated buildings, bridges, subways, underpasses to give them a ‘clean’ look.
“A meeting was held with the OC officials and they told us to put wall wraps on a number of buildings and flyovers to make them look tolerable. Such wraps would also create a buzz for the Games too,” said a senior official.
Exploring the possibilities of what could be done with the wall wraps and where all they could be put the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was sent a presentation from the Organising Committee.
“We then modified and made some changes to it. We have now sent that proposal to the Delhi government for approval,” said a senior MCD official. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 7 crore and work will start by mid of September.

As the gates which were to be constructed on the border areas before the Games have not even begun temporary arch gates will be created too. The wraps will be put up on the bridge panel of the flyovers, billboards will be put up on the streetlights poles.
