Most of the participants are from Delhi and the National Capital Region.

"We want to make the people aware about the green cover which is also a home to a number of rare species of fauna," said Manas Arvind, a member of the group.

In 1999, there were some three lakh trees in the district, but by 2011 reduced to just 1,32,000. Similarly, forest cover has also reduced to 240 hectares from 9,268 hectares.

Chiro Mitra, organiser of the event said, "People are not aware of what they are loosing due to rapid construction activities. We want them to be a part of our campaign and help save the forest".
