Dafydd Iwan, the president of Plaid Cymru, the Party of Wales was born in Wales in 1943 and also graduated from the University of Wales.
Iwan initially tasted fame as a singer-songwriter, writing and playing folk music in the Welsh language. He even started getting TV coverage for both music and political activities by the 60's. He was also imprisoned in 1970 as part of the fight for Welsh language rights.
Presently Iwan is also a county councillor in Gwynedd, where some of his programmes advocates cheap housing for locals only and not newcomers. But such policies have brought in some controversies. In addition, he is also board member of some companies and societies and school governor but such multiple loyalties has not succeeded to dampen his adoration for music.
Iwan however has faced multiple convictions regarding motoring offences and narrowly escaped a ban in October 2003 on grounds that he required to go for his musical and political calls.
