Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Friday left his residence in Himachal Pradesh hill town for Mumbai, where he will undergo a medical examination, his aide said.

"It's a routine medical examination. He will reach Mumbai in the evening. He will be examined on Saturday," the aide said.

"After the medical examination, he will spend the day in Mumbai. The next day he will leave for a 15-day religious tour to France," the aide added.
The Dalai Lama has lived in India since fleeing his homeland in 1959. His government-in-exile, which is not recognised by any country, is based in Dharamsala.
