Security around exiled Tibetan leader – the Dalai Lama has been beefed following reports of covert activities of a group reported to be opposed to him, reports Gaurav Bisht.

Security around exiled Tibetan leader – the Dalai Lama has been beefed following reports of covert activities of a group reported to be opposed to him.

Agencies manning Dalai Lama’s security have stepped up vigil around his private palace in Mcleodganj. In the wake of latest intelligence inputs, security agencies have suggested the Dalai Lama to cut down his road traveling. “After ascertaining prevailing situation we have critically reviewed Dalai Lama’s security” Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) A.P Siddique told Hindustan Times, while he declined to comment further. Officials of the state intelligence have held detailed meeting with representatives of Tibetan security department, including the Tibetan Security Minister Nodup. Government has decided to install latest security gadgets at the private palace of Dalai Lama in Macleodganj. Besides, Dalai Lama’s personnel’s staff deputed at his residence would be given training to keep check on people visiting the exiled Tibetan leader.

The liaison office of MEA in Mcleoadganj has asked the security agencies to install more close circuit television in Dalai Lama’s palace and the main Buddhist temple located outside his palace. The main Buddhist is the place which is visited by Dalai Lama in routine to give teachings to his followers.


Reportedly, security around Dalai Lama has been stepped up, due to varied reports that emerged after conclusion of his tour to Arunachal Pradesh in November. Dalai Lama’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh had witnessed bitter word exchange between India and China. While China opposed the visit, Indian government had clarified that Dalai Lama was free to travel to Arunachal Pradesh. Reliable sources have told Hindustan Times that group of Tibetan cult opposed to Dalai Lama were carrying covert activities to in Tibetan settlements scattered across the country. Dalai Lama has been opposed to worshipping of Shugden – a Tibetan deity. Shugden worship has also been banned in the Tibetan monasteries.
