After his brother Darmesh Darshan who tried to experiment with Aap Ki Khaatir last year(not with much of success though), it's now Suneel Darshan’s turn to carve a new niche with the youthful Shakalaka Boom Boom (that releases on April 6) staring his favourite Bobby Deol, Upen Patel, Celina Jaitley and Kangana Ranaut.

The maker of films true to the Indian culture like Ek Rishta-The Bond of Love, Janwaar and Barsaat says he is "trying to evolve as a director and grow technically" and that’s why this film.

But despite this new approach, Darshan does not regret making traditional Indian films, "My last film Dosti was a huge success abroad and so was Barsaat. They had their own niche. However back home in India the urban centric audience did not accept the films," adds Darshan.

Shakaklaka Boom Boom is part of a new approach to cinema, Darshan says. It’s about rivalry between two singers — one young and the other his senior.

But the buzz is that the film is a take on the rivalry between Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan?

"Several parallels have been drawn. Somebody said it was between AR Rahman and Nadeem. It is about the rivalry between two artists belonging to two different generations," says Darshan.

But having been in the film industry for so many years haven’t he been inspired by some incidents of rivalry from within the entertainment world?

Darshan answers in the positive. "It is a very realistic film. You script your film on the basis of various interactions that you have," he says.

Talking of the uniqueness in the film Darshan says it is the first film to be shot in the Gold mines of South Africa and there is a sequence where he has used animatronics something we are not used to see in Hindi films.

And of course there is Himesh Reshammiya with whom Darshan works for the first time (he has all this while preferably worked with Nadeem-Shravan) and the music is rocking.

"I approached Himesh when he was overworked after Nadeem and Shravan had parted ways, and I can tell you he has done full justice to the commitment."
