The police, however, said the man was depressed over his daughter’s alleged affair with a man in his neighbourhood. Admitted in Jaipur Golden Hospital after consuming sulphas tablets — a pesticide — the deceased died during treatment, police said.

The names of the victim and the family have been withheld to protect their identities. The police have denied that the man committed suicide after hearing about the telecast of his daughter’s “blue film”.

Illicit affair?

Police said the deceased had committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at his home in Kanjhawala.

“It seems the deceased had consumed the pesticide after he came to know about his daughter’s relationship with a married man in the area,” a senior police officer said on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

According to reliable police sources, the deceased allegedly beat his daughter on Saturday evening after he heard that the boyfriend had allegedly aired her blue film in a local cable channel.

The body of the deceased was later sent for post-mortem. A magisterial enquiry has been initiated into the incident.
