After Rohan Bopanna lost to lowly ranked Hee-Seok Chung 3-6 6-2 6-3 6-4 in the opening singles rubber, Prakash Amritraj made a meek surrender to the seasoned Hyung-Taik Lee 6-2 6-2 6-0 in the second match.
The doubles match will be played tomorrow followed by the reverse singles on Sunday.
A defeat in the tie will push India to play the play-off against the zonal Group 2 winner to avoid relegation.
