Meanwhile, striking medicos have decided to select unanimously their president (JDA), who will work for their issues.

Notably, there has been no student union or representatives of students in the college for the last several years. Medicos are also annoyed over slow pace of action being taken by the authorities while giving justice to victims. A final-year student said the strike would continue till they got justice.

Sitting at the entrance of the emergency ward of LLR hospital with his demand for getting internship stipend hiked, Virendra Kumar Singh said, “Since 2001, admission fee has been hiked about six times and examination fee has also been increased from Rs 1015 to Rs 3015, but the stipend amount has been fixed at Rs 1950.”

Though some medicos were spotted in the hospital providing medical assistance to serious patients but on Wednesday, all attention was on selection of JDA president. The strike is now being guided by postgraduate students. Annoyed over the dealing of the administration and the government on this important issue, a Junior Resident III said, “We will choose our JDA president with the consent of every student, no matter whether the principal gives his nod.”

He also said, “There have been several incidents which have tarnished the image of medicos. A JDA president will put our voice before people and bridge the gap between medicos and patients.”

Earlier, medicos took out a silent rally on the GSVM Medical College premises against January 15 incidents.
