IT WAS altogether a different scene in KGMU on Thursday when the letter from the Governor office declared dean Dr SK Agrawal office as new V-C.
At around 1 pm when the dean reached his office and opened the letter from the governor office, the news spread fast and almost all the senior faculty members were there to greet him. The usual number of two or three visitor climbed to a dozen in one go.
It may be mentioned that the chancellor office had asked for names of three senior most faculty members from KGMU. The names were sought to select someone from the campus itself in case the search committee could not pick a suitable name.
Finally, a situation came where the chancellor office had to decide from the three names of Prof AM Kar, Prof CG Agrawal and Prof SK Agrawal. The choice was Prof SK Agrawal. Within an hour’s time dozens of faculty members came to greet Dr Agrawal.
Those faculty members who used to camp at the V-C’s office for hours also found time to wait for Dr Agrawal to arrive. The aim was to set their tuning right with the new V-C even if he was to hold office for next three months only. “Who knows the term gets extended and we have Dr Agrawal for next three years,” commented one of the senior faculty members who came to greet Dr Agrawal.
For the outgoing V-C Prof Mahendra Bhandari, it was just another day to finish off his work. He was busy concluding the paper work for there were just 24 hours to go before he leaves for Paris.
