The CPI(M) said on Tuesday a discussion in Parliament was no substitute for an investigation into corruption cases, demanding court-monitored or joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probes into the Vyapam scam and alleged favours to former cricket administrator Lalit Modi.
“I am asking the BJP to apply its own yardsticks. During the 2G spectrum scam, Arun Jaitley had demanded the then telecom minister A Raja’s resignation and formation of a JPC. The same rule of resignation followed by probe should apply now,” CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said in response to finance minister Arun Jaitley’s statement in the Rajya Sabha that the government was ready for a debate on all issues raised by the Opposition.
“Earlier, we have heard the BJP saying ‘Maunmohan’ Singh, but now the PM has become ‘Maunendra’ Modi,” Yechury said, taking a dig at the PM for remaining silent on the allegations levelled against his Cabinet minister Sushma Swaraj and two BJP chief ministers.
The CPI(M) has stood beside the Congress on the issue and says the Opposition is united in seeking the resignations of Swaraj, Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and her Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
“The SP, BSP and JD(U) are all with us. It is nothing but fanciful imagination of the ruling side that the Opposition is divided. The stands of different political parties will be clear when they speak on the floor of the House,” Yechury said.
