UNION MINISTER of State for Defence Production Rao Inderjeet Singh today here disclosed that the Government on June 7 would take the final decision on Vijay Kelkar Committee recommendations. The committee studied the overall performance of 40 ordnance factories (including 6 in MP), and came out with recommendations, including corporatisation of the Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata.

The government, Singh said, has already accepted some recommendations of the committee that was formed by the UPA. His disclosure is likely to evoke a sharp reaction as the civilian workers bodies in defence establishments, especially strong Union All India Defence Employees Federation (AIDEF) of Left Parties are opposing the Keklar Committee report tooth and nail.
Taking to presspersons here after visting the 4 OFs here, he admitted that the government was making bids to bring in 26 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in defence production.
Asked whether there was any plan to tie up with foreign multi national companies (MNCs) for production of arms and ammunition, he said, the Government at moment wasn’t working on any such plan.
The Minister ruled out the possibility of lifting a ban on recruitment in the OFs. For nearly 20 years, there is a ban on recruitment in defence establishments.
