At a meeting held in Delhi on Friday, the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary, represented by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) vice-chairman, gave the final approval for sharing the state's cost of Rs. 60 crore for construction of the station.

"The project has been cleared at the high-level meeting in Delhi. The Uttar Pradesh government has also agreed to pay Rs. 60 crore of its share for the project. The town will now have a Metro connectivity which will benefit thousands of commuters from the Loni area," GDA vice-chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav said.

The cost of constructing the station, some of the land for which is in the heartland state, is estimated to be around R231 crore. GDA officials said the cost would escalate to around R282 once the project is completed.

"But the state's share will remain R60 crore," Yadav added.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's proposed Johari Enclave station is proposed to be constructed on a 3-km extension of the Yamuna Vihar line to Shiv Vihar in the Phase III of the Delhi Metro network. Some part of land required for this station is in Uttar Pradesh.

Once complete, the Johari Enclave station will also cater to daily commuters from Loni, which has an estimated population of around 5-6 lakh and is close to Delhi.

GDA has also expedited the second phase of R991-crore Dilshad Garden to New Bus Stand Metro connectivity in Ghaziabad and have already sent the final cost-sharing pattern with other Uttar Pradesh agencies to Lucknow for finalisation.
