"I gave her (Deepika) all the freedom to choose a career of her choice," Padukone told reporters in Indore when asked whether he wanted his daughter to become a badminton player.

"I am happy that her passion has now turned into a good career," he said.

Padukone, who was here to cheer up participants of the National Badminton Championship, said his parents had supported him and his brother in choosing their respective careers of becoming a badminton player and an engineer.

"Similarly, I also encouraged my daughters to choose a career of their choices. Deepika likes modelling and films, while Anisha is sweating it out on the golf course to become a professional golfer," he said.

"If they want to succeed in their respective careers they will have to work hard," the former All England Badminton champion said.
