According to reports, Anayat has filed a plea in the high court seeking disqualification of Asgar Ali Karbalai, saying the Congress leader was holding an office of profit at the time of filing his nomination papers.

Karbalai was the executive councilor, Ladakh hill development council, Kargil, on the date of scrutiny of papers, Anayat said, adding that he enjoyed the status of a cabinet minister and received salary and other perks besides allowances.

Besides Karbalai, the respondents in the petition are the election commission of India, the chief secretary on behalf of the state, the assistant commissioner revenue, Kargil, in his capacity as returning officer and the LHDC through deputy commissioner Kargil.

Two other candidates who contested the polls in Kargil are also named as respondents in the petition by the PDP leader.
