The Centre has welcomed the Supreme Court's order on commercial use of residential buildings in New Delhi.
It said that the move reflected the government's stand for tough action against major building and land law violations in the capital.
"The order clearly aims at major violations, which we also believe should be dealt with strictly. How can such violators be protected? We very much welcome the court order," Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken said.
The order, he explained, applies to residential buildings that house commercial establishments in half or more than half of their areas along roads wider than 80 feet.
"There is no need for panic over the order as it clearly aims at major violations," Maken said after a meeting with Congress MPs at the DPCC office.
DPCC president Ram Babu Sharma, who also welcomed the Supreme Court order, said that his party had requested the Centre to seek relief for small violations.
Maken, however, said that the DPCC request would be forwarded to the newly-formed expert committee on Delhi's illegal structures for its opinion.

{{/usCountry}}"The committee will decide the step that should be taken for any kind of relief for small violation," he said.
The DPCC meeting, which came a day after the Supreme Court order on illegal commercial complexes in residential zones, was attended by Congress MPs Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler, RK Anand and Krishna Tirath.
The DPCC chief, however, said he was surprised that party MP Sandeep Dikshit did not turn up for the meeting.
"It's surprising that he did not attend a meeting on such a burning issue," Sharma said.
