When the four suspects in the gang rape case were convicted by fast-track court on Tuesday, a dozen police personnel, who were part of the investigation, felt satisfied with the job they had done.
It was probably the first time that a sample of dental impression was used as evidence in a rape case. The 550-page chargesheet had 85 witnesses and was prepared in 18 days.
“We collected samples from the victim’s body and they were matched with the dental impression of the accused. We found a lab in Bangalore and samples were sent there. It was probably one of the finest investigations,” said a senior police officer, who was part of the investigation.
“Apart from the traditional recovery of items such as robbed articles and mobile phones, the CFSL report and technical analysis of call records also helped. Also, for the first time, statements of doctors from Singapore were as recorded through video conferencing,” the official said.
CCTV footage from a hotel in Mahipalpur helped the police to establish the fact that the bus was roaming in the area. “The accused had washed the bus and burnt their clothes. We managed to trace three men who had seen them burning their clothes. Their statements helped us establish that evidence had been destroyed,” the officer added.

{{/usCountry}}The entire investigation was conducted by inspector Rajender Singh of the special task force (STF), SHO Vasant Vihar, Anil Sharma, SHO Saket, Ritu Raj, inspector Neeraj Chaudhary, inspector Gagan Bhaskar and their subordinates.
“This case has started a new chapter of systematic evidence gathering, professionalism by police, scientific agencies and hospitals. Our investigation was appreciated by the court as well,” Vivek Gogia, joint CP (southwest range), said.
“Our police control room (PCR) personnel, the first responders in the case, had done a good job,” said TN Mohan, special CP (Operations).
