Delhi government is paying the price for its inefficiency
Pankaj Vohra in Read the writing on the wall (Between Us, September 21) has rightly stated that the Congress’ loss of two seats in the Delhi Assembly by-elections is due to Sheila Dikshit’s inability to deliver what she promised. Electricity and water problems, bad roads, price rise and an increase in crime show that the government has been unable to discharge its duties. The Delhi government will have to pay dearly for its inabilities in future elections too.

The new charge is unnecessary
It seems the honeymoon period of low-cost airlines is coming to an end (Penny for that pound, The Pundit, September 21). With American Airlines levying extra-baggage charges, it’s only a matter of time before other airlines follow suit. Around the world, airlines’ profits have dipped due to various factors. So, who better than customers to make up for the loss? But this is a bad business model and can backfire.

The charges on extra baggage are unnecessary and the airline in question must scrap it. There are better ways of making profit like cost-cutting and decreasing the number of daily flights.

Don’t let history repeat itself
The report China advances: Not alarming, says NSA (September 21) reminds us of 1962 when then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Foreign Minister Krishna Menon ignored information on Chinese incursions. The result was a war between the two nations and India lost. To ensure that history doesn’t repeat itself in 2009, the government should wake up to the latest Chinese incursions in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh and take appropriate action.
