THE TRANSPORT Department of Delhi today seized and challaned UPSRTC’s seven CNG-city buses that tried to ply in Delhi region even as Transport Minister, Naresh Agrawal, in a last-ditch effort to resolve the dispute, is expected to formally meet Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dixit on Thursday.
The UPSRTC had launched its ‘hi-tech’ city buses from Noida/Greater Noida to various cities including Delhi. But the DTC had already warned of not allowing UPSRTC buses to operate inside the Delhi. The UPSRTC on the other hand, maintained that it already had an agreement with the DTC under which they were already plying buses in each other’s territory.
However, Delhi started stopping and seizing buses from the first day when they tried to operate inside the National Capital. According to senior UPSRTC official, Delhi authorities seized four buses on Tuesday also. However, it was only after Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s talks with his Delhi counterpart on Tuesday, that the matter was resolved though temporarily. As, according to the senior UPSRTC officials, “They are seizing and challaning our buses on the ground that our bus permits do not bear their counter signatures.”
Principal Secretary, (Transport), Rajendra Bhaunwal told the Hindustan Times that Government was trying to resolve the issue amicably before it takes any drastic step matching with that of Delhi. “Till now we were not plying our buses inside Delhi because as per rules we could ply only CNG buses and we did not have any. As of now we have obtained CNG buses we have every right to ply them inside Delhi as per the agreement,” said Bhaunwal.
