In view of non-compliance of its earlier advisory to stop sale of junk food, including soft drinks, in schools, Delhi Government is planning to hold a meeting of its education advisory board to make the ban mandatory.
The decision was also taken in the wake of recent findings by the Centre for Science (CSE) on high level of pesticides in the soft drinks, officials told in New Delhi on Friday.
They said the Board meeting, to be attended by principals of both government and private schools, will be held next week to chalk out modalities for making the ban mandatory.
Though no new ban has so far been imposed following the CSE report, a circular by the NCT administration was issued in 2003, asking schools not to serve or sell junk food, including soft drinks.
