The controversial sealing drive against unauthorised commercial establishments in Delhi will resume from Wednesday, two days after the Supreme Court rapped the government for not restarting the operation.
Briefing reporters after a meeting with MCD officials, member of the apex court-appointed monitoring committee KJ on Tuesday said, "The sealing will resume from tomorrow".
However, details of where the drive will begin were not spelt out by the committee. "We have said about it earlier," another committee member SP Jhingan said.
Refusing to grant any relief to the nearly 44,000 traders, the Supreme Court, in its stinging order on Monday, had chided the government observing that "the Government is not powerless to control the (law and order) situation. Nor can anyone be permitted to place a dagger on the neck of the authorities." "No one can be permitted to hold the city and the law- abiding citizens to ransom and then seek relief," the court had further said.
Besides Rao and Jhingan, the meeting was attended by MCD Commissioner AK Nigam, Delhi Police chief KK Paul and other senior official of the civic body.
