The Gurgaon centre is Dell's fourth contact centre in India and has been operational since June.

"We will increase the number of our employees in our Gurgaon centre to 2,500 in next 12-14 months from 800 now and soon move to our new facility (in Gurgaon) which is under construction currently," company's Managing Director Romi Malhotra told reporters in New Delhi.

However, he declined to give any details on the investment for the centre.

In the first phase, the new facility would cover an area of 300,000 sq ft, he said, adding that the area as well as the number of employees will grow depending upon the demand and requirements.

"The facility in future will have a capacity of about 5,000 people," Malhotra added.

The Gurgaon centre currently provides technical support for Dell's customers in the US, Europe, Middle East and Africa and product sales to customers in EMEA, he said.

Dell currently employs over 12,000 people in India and plans to take this number to 20,000 in the next 2-3 years, Malhotra said.

India is the second largest employee base for Dell outside the US.
