Hearing a petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry in all land allotments in Noida and Greater Noida since 2005, the Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file its reply by August 16.
“The court will hear the matter next on August 24. The UP government has sought two weeks' time to file a reply,” petitioner Inder Nagar said on Monday.
“In 2007, the Greater Noida authority had planned a builders’ scheme in Noida Extension and allotted 60% of the acquired land to private builders, though land was acquired for industrial purpose,” Nagar said.
Political leaders have supported the demand.
“It is a scam of thousands of crores of rupees. If properly investigated, it will expose a nexus among the authority, builders and politicians,” said Bhartiya Janta Party leader and former minister Nawab Singh Nagar.
The petition has alleged that officials took bribe from builders and changed the land use from industrial to residential.
Authority officials, however, denied the allegations and claimed their motive was solely development of the area and the conversion was done following proper procedure.
