On Sunday, HT had reported that the state government had ordered an inquiry into the functioning of the Maharashtra State Wakf Board after receiving various complaints about illegal sale, transfer or exchange of wakf properties (Wakf property deals under scanner, HT, May 6)

Movement for Peace and Justice (MPJ), a people’s initiative, will hold dharnas in Azad Maidan on Tuesday to condemn the state of affairs at the wakf board.

The MPJ has demanded that findings of the inquiry report be made public and that there should not be any more political appointees to the board.

“We want the inquiry report to be made public and the Economic Offences Wing to probe these misdeeds,” said Dr Azimuddin, President, MPJ Mumbai.

The inquiry was conducted by Sadid Qadri, Chief Financial Officer with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation and the inquiry report was submitted in April. Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who was out of the city on Sunday, told HT that he would look at the report on returning.
