Party spokesman Umashankar Gupta said that the Congress never believed in democratic values and it had only encroached upon fundamental rights of government employees by imposing the ban on their participation in RSS activities. The BJP Government by lifting the ban has only restored this right.

Gupta further said that the Congress had always been in awe of RSS’ ideology of cultural nationalism. First Prime Minister of India Pt Jawaharlal Nehru had written to the then RSS Sarsanghchalak Guru Golwalkar in 1948 underlining his concern over ideology of cultural nationalism propagated by the RSS. Since then, successive Congress governments have sought to ‘crush’ the RSS rather than ideologically counter it.

Ban was imposed on the RSS and its activists were harassed. Many Government servants associated with the outfit were dismissed from service, he said.

He said that the Congress had not spared any attempts to humiliate Guru Golwalkar as well. He was charged to have violated Constitution of India following his speech at Darbhanga and criminal proceedings initiated against him. Here again, Patna High Court had halted proceedings against Golwalkar describing it to be politically biased action, he said.
