Health department officials confirmed that the water of the fountain situated at the main gate of Apple Tree, a three-star hotel, was on Saturday found infested with the larvae of mosquitoes carrying dengue virus.

The department has issued a notice to the hotel management, seeking an explanation within three days. "During the anti-larvae drive, our officials went to the hotel and found larvae in two ponds situated at the hotel gate," said Gyanendra Mishra, district malaria officer.

Senior players such as Virender Sehwag, Ishant Sharma, Gautam Ghambir, Virat Kohli, Praveen Kumar, Suresh Raina, Mohammad Kaif and Ashish Nehra are staying at Apple Tree for a match between Delhi and UP.

Meanwhile, 37 new cases of dengue were reported in the capital today, taking the total number of cases this season to 1,172.
