Denmark announced the grant during a meeting of the United Nations Security Council that discussed Nepal's peace process and resolution of the armed conflict, a statement issued by the Danish embassy said here on Tuesday.

The money will go to a trust fund to finance the UN peace mission in Nepal, the embassy said.

Denmark was also ready to support the UN peace mission in the Himalayan country with staff having civilian and military background, the statement said.

The Danish Parliament has already approved $6.75 million in 2007 for activities related to the peace process and drafting of the new constitution and it is expected to provide further $6.75 million in 2008.

"I am pleased with the positive developments in Nepal, including the important step of the signing of a peace accord between the Seven Party Alliance and the Maoists," said Danish Minister for Development Cooperation Ulla Torlaes who recently visited Nepal.
