THE DISTRICT administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident of desecration of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s statue at Kakdev on November 29.

The incident led to disturbance in the law and order and arrest of a person Arun Balmiki on December 1. The additional city metropolitan magistrate (XI), SK Sharma, has been appointed as inquiry magistrate to carry out the probe.
A press communiqué issued by Sharma said anyone interested to share evidence regarding the incident could submit it at his office or inform him verbally during working hours by December 10. On November 28-29 night, miscreants vandalised the statue of Ambedkar near Kulwanti nursing home at Kakadev.
The incident triggered tension in the locality.
As a backlash, incidents of arsons were witnessed in several parts of the country. In Maharastra, the situation went out of control following clashes between the police and the protesters. Apart from a few casualties, government and private property were also damaged.
Woman alleges torture
A NEWLY-WED woman managed to flee her in-laws’ house and reached the Naubasta police station on Friday to lodge a complaint against her in-laws.
Poonam, resident of Parmat, alleged that her in-laws beat her up for dowry and kept her in confinement after her kin failed to meet their demand for a motorcycle and Rs 50,000.
She was married to one Mahesh Yadav, son of Sriram, on April 14 this year. Soon after the marriage, her in-laws allegedly started demanding a motorcycle and Rs 50,000 cash.

{{/usCountry}}According to Poonam, her father had already given a dowry of more than Rs 3 lakh at the time of marriage.
When Poonam’s kin failed to meet the additional dowry demand, her in-laws, husband and others allegedly started misbehaving with her.
They even tried to immolate me on two occasions by pouring kerosene, Poonam alleged.She further alleged that on November 16, 2006, her in-laws locked her in a room and stopped giving her food. “They also threatened my kin with dire consequences,” she said adding.
After twenty days of confinement, Poonam somehow managed to escape and later approached Naubasta police and narrated her entire story.
While the police lodged an FIR against her in-laws under the Dowry Act, SO Naubasta Virendra Singh said police were trying to arrest the accused as they had fled their house.
